Austrian (no, not Australian) car magazine "Auto Revue" reports that Piech, the man behind VWs aquisations of Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ducati, mentioned a VW made lightweight sportscar during a lecture he was giving at the Technical University Vienna. The picture from above was shown aswell.
As you can see, the idea is to reuse the ultra light XL1 chassis and widen it. The really interesting part is the engine choice though: Ducatis Panigale engine should power the car via a DKG. With the engine being ultra light aswell, Piech estimates an overal weight of less than 800kg.
Right now Piech calls it the "Project XL Sport", and the unique thing would be a sportscar that is unique with its bike engine but would also demolish rivals with incredibly low fuel consumption.
What do you think, genious or insane?

Would.
Also, it would be an awesome platform for a Tesla-style EV.

Not genius. Long overdue!!!! With all the hyabusa conversions and racing bike tech in mass production on the street...why have I been made to wait for this?

Hate the fenders.
Would prefer two things about the XL1. More power. And more of them on the road!
